Boys and Girls

I sat down last night and got caught up on a few episodes of Rachel Ray that had been back logged in my PVR.  And of course she didn't disappoint with a behind the scenes look at how an issue of US weekly comes together and interview with Amy Adams of Enchanted (in the running to be added to my fave movies of all time list) and she had a really interesting He Said/She Said debate on gifts for your significant other.  It was amazing the difference in opinion between the women and the men.

What women assumed were totally acceptable, the male contingent was a little freaked out by and to be fair, the men seemed a little clueless when it comes to girls.

Some key observations for the men:

Jewellery is ALWAYS acceptable...however the only thing that should ever come in a small ring shaped box is THE ring...otherwise you are just setting yourself up for disaster.

Nope on clothes.  You will never get the size right.  Two big means you think she's fat.  And two small points out that she's not the size you want her to be. So just forget it.

Some key observations for the girls:

Jewllery is a no-no.  At least early on in the relationship.  A watch or cufflinks signify a certain amount of commitment that you need to be sure you both agree on.

If you're giving tickets to an event - for one, make sure it's not to far out...six months down the road is assuming too much.  And specify in the card whether or not he can invite a buddy to that hockey game or if you want to accompany him to the event.

Interesting, huh?

Of course I have no significant other to buy for this year.  But at least I'll be prepared for the future.

me.
