Friday Night Lights

Ok - so maybe it's on Friday nights and most of you are out partying it up, having drinks to celebrate the end of the week and can't be bothered with tv.  But maybe you're like me and more often than not you are just too freaking exhausted at the end of the week to go anywhere. 
 
And in that case - you have no excuse and should be watching Friday Night Lights.  It is not all about football.  In fact it's about the hot and sexy people in this small town that is obsesed with football - BIG difference. 
 
To get you caught up - here's some background on the characters and you can watch some season one episodes for free here. 
 
I expect you to be singing my praises and thanking me for introducing you to this wonderful show in a few weeks.  I'll be waiting.
 
 
Coach Taylor (hottie #1) - came to the town as new high school football coach; almost got sued because star quarterback got paralyzed - said he didn't coach him properly - the school board settled with the family (Jason (the QB) never wanted to sue the Coach, he doesn't blame him); always wanted to work for a college team finally gets a job offer but his wife and daughter fought him on it because after moving around their whole lives for him they finally found someplace that felt like home (Tammi got a job at the school as a guidance counsellor, Julie got a boyfreind, etc.) so he let them stay and is now commuting; entire town was upset that he left
 
Jason Street - star quarterback, got hurt during a game, now paralyzed; tried to get on the para-olympic rugby team was rejected; fell for a girl he met while in rehab (she wasn't paralyzed though), Lyla (his head cheerleader girlfriend) caught them kissing and they broke up; took his GED so he wouldn't have to go back to high shcool 'cuz he hated everyone looking at him like they felt sorry for him; Coach Taylor realized he was good at helping Matt get used to his new role as QB, gave him a job coaching
 
Matt Saracen - basically a benchwarmer till Jason Street got hurt and now is star quarterback; very shy not used to the attention; takes care of his grandma who is a bit coo-coo while his dad is away at war in Iraq; crush on Coach Taylor's daughter Julie who wouldn't give him the time of day at first but finally gave in - they fell in love
 
Tim Riggins (hottie #2) - town bad boy/drunk, Jason's best friend, used to date Tyra; then slept with Lyla while Jason was still in the hospital; everyone found out about them and Tyra broke up with him; Lyla wouldn't speak to him; lives with his brother; his father is a drunk that lives elsewhere, he tried to live with him for a bit last year but he was abusive; had an affair with his 30-something year old neighbour who is now apparently dating his brother;
 
Tyra - used to date Riggins; reputation as the town bad girl - but wants to make something of her life, the coach's wife convinced her that she is smart enough to get into college and so she's trying to change; she helped her mom get a job with Mr. Garrity (Lyla's dad, the car salesman) so that her mom could get away from her loser boyfriend and her mother ended up having had an affair with Garrity (which is why Lyla's parents are separated); guy tried to rape her one night while she was studying
 
Lyla (John Mayer's girlfriend) - was head cheerleader, dating the star of the football team, then her life went to crap; slept with Riggins, everyone found out and she was ostrasized;  found out her dad was cheating on her mom; Jason eventually forgave her for sleeping with Riggins and they got engaged; she caught him kissing another girl and threw the ring back at him; suddenly this season she has found God
 
Landry - basically just Matt's geeky friend; crush on Tyra; when she decided to try to focus on school work he convinced her to let him help her with some math subject (can't remember what) and they became friends; his car broke down and he was late to meet her one night at a diner and that's when the guy tried to rape her he showed up just as Tyra got away; trying out for the football team this year; accidentally killed Tyra's would be rapist when he tried to attack her again
